General Motors stated that the investment project will enable the two parties to change the design of the engine in order to meet the future increase in vehicle emission requirements. In addition, thanks to this investment project, 500 jobs at the company's Moraine plant in Ohio will also be retained.

DMAX was established in 1998, GM and Isuzu currently hold 60% and 40% of their respective shares. Since the company began operations in 2000, it has produced 1.6 million diesel engines to date, and it is used in heavy-duty trucks sold in the United States.

The Moraine plant was built in 2000 at a cost of US$760 million. The 6.6-liter turbo diesel engine produced in the plant was used in pickups such as the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, as well as in the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana trucks.

GM had previously stated that the 2016 Colorado and Canyon mid-range pickups that the company will market next year will carry a 2.6-liter turbo diesel engine. In addition, the company also considers launching a diesel version for the light-weight Silverado and Sierra models, but The relevant plan has not yet been announced.
