British Successfully Uses Waste Tire to Extract Carbon Black

A few days ago, three British inventors successfully extracted carbon black from used tires. This carbon black can be used as a substitute for coloring specialty carbon blacks for printing inks, and is inexpensive.

According to reports, this method is used in isolation from air conditions. The first step is to pyrolyze used tires at a high temperature of 800°C to obtain a mixture of carbon black, steel wire, and white carbon black; after magnetic separation, screening, and baking, semi-pure carbon powders are obtained; then semi-pure carbon is washed separately with hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. Powder, carbon black for black printing ink can be obtained.

This high-temperature pyrolysis process does not emit carbon dioxide gas compared to the conventional furnace black process.
