Audi said that the Los Angeles Auto Show will be opened on November 19 this year and a new concept car will be released. The car will be led by Audi's new design director, Marc Lichte, and will be the first Audi car to have a Lichte signature on the design. Audi will demonstrate the updated design language through the new concept car, embodying the core competitiveness of brands such as “sports”, “lightweight” and “Quattro four-wheel drive”.

This Audi also gives a top-view visualization of the concept car, but the dark body is integrated into the dark background and can only see the outline of the streamline and the shape of the wheel arch, without much detail. However, Audi attaches great importance to the car, and even said it will be "into a new design era", whether it is the appearance or interior angle.

The foreign media disclosed several months ago that the Audi A9 concept car will meet the public for the first time at the Los Angeles Auto Show. While embodying many details of the Audi A9, it also represents the direction of Marc Lichte's leadership. Therefore, this rendering can be regarded as the first official map of the Audi A9 concept car.

Marc Lichte, 45 years old, entered the Audi design department in 2014. As early as 1996, Lichte joined the Volkswagen Group and became the head of the exterior design studio in 2006. From the VW Golf 5, Golf 6, Passat 6, Passat 7, to the latest generation of Golf 7 and Passat 8, and the new Touareg and Phaeton shape design, are led by Marc Lichte behind the scenes.

Audi said that the new design direction led by Marc Lichte will combine Audi's technological competitiveness with the quality of brand products, making automotive design a more powerful expression of cutting-edge technology.

It is reported that the Audi A9 will be released around 2016 to 2017, targeting the top luxury flagship coupe, with competitors targeting high-end versions of the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide, and Mercedes-Benz CLS.

The blueprint for the Audi A9 will be the Modularer Längsbaukasten (Modularer Längsbaukasten). The latest Audi A4 to A8 are based on this platform, such as Audi A4 (B8)-Typ 8K, Audi A5-Typ 8T, Audi A6 (C7)-Typ 4G, Audi A7-Typ 4G, Audi A8 (D4)- Typ 4H. After applying Audi's latest aluminum structure, the Audi A9 has also adopted many other lightweight weight reduction methods, including the use of carbon fiber composite materials in non-carriers. Audi's goal is to control the Audi A9's curb quality at the Audi A7, which is a smaller size. For reference, the Audi A7 with a 2.8-liter V6 engine has a starting mass of 1,660 kg. The Audi A9 will be a large coupe with a total length of more than 5,000mm, which is significantly larger than that of the Audi A7.

Audi insiders said that the power of this concept car will be related to the production version of the Audi A9. Similar to the new Audi A8, the Audi A9 can support both precursor and four-wheel drive configurations.

Currently in the Audi A9's power configuration, one is a 3.0-liter TFSI (Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection) turbocharged stratified direct injection engine with a power of approximately 300 horsepower; the other is a 4.0-liter V8 dual-turbocharger. Pressure engine, the highest power output can reach more than 500 horsepower. The Audi S9 and RS9 are expected to carry a V8 twin-turbocharged engine with more than 600 hp.

Diesel engines may use the latest version of Audi's 3.0-liter V6 engine, with electronic control technology and twin turbochargers. There will also be a new 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine, which is currently under development at the VW R&D center in Braunschweig.

The new energy version of the Audi A9 will have two plug-in hybrid models, including petrol and diesel versions, and the name may be the Audi A9 e-tron, which is expected to open at the Detroit Auto Show in January next year. The powertrain is similar to the second-generation Audi Q7, which will be available next year.

The Audi A9, equipped with plug-in hybrid technology, will have an electric cruising range of 50 kilometers and CO2 emissions of less than 80 grams/km.
