During the two sessions of the National People's Congress this year, NPC deputy Yu Ping, chairman of the Yuchai Group Board of Directors, told reporters in an interview that Yuchai's production in February and March was very busy. Under the severe circumstances of the global financial crisis and the continual spread of market crisis, Yuchai went against the tide, and its products were in short supply. Orders continued to rise. In February, it produced more than 50,000 units, and in March it produced more than 70,000 units. When I arrived at the vehicle assembly section of the engine plant of Yuchai Corporation, I heard encouraging news: Since February, without increasing equipment and personnel, they have continuously innovated in management thinking and worked hard. Skillful work, starting from 450 stations, gradually progressed, and in more than one month, even the eight customs exchanges, the production capacity increased by more than 50%. Here, the author is amazed at the miracles created by the workers' masters and believes that Yuchai’s “warm spring” is not groundless.

By actively responding to the international financial crisis, Yuchai established a strategic management system for the Group, continued to deepen the internal industrial restructuring of the Group, expanded external financing channels, actively seized market opportunities, accelerated the technological transformation of enterprises, innovated incentive mechanisms, researched and developed leading products, and nurtured innovations. Culture, introducing and cultivating innovative talents, improving the ability of independent innovation, and improving market competitiveness. Not only has the “crisis” turned into a reality, it has also achieved good results.

Close to the rural extension overseas

In the grand opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, as the heart of the car, more than 2,000 units of the Yuchai Guotai Engine beat the imported brands, carrying a sense of national pride and escorting the special Olympic vehicles.

However, Yuchai did not meet this brief aura. The strong sense of crisis led Yuchai to put forward the eight-character operating principle of 2009—“internal training, building and development”, that is, to practice internal strength to enhance strength, build market to cultivate growth points, and collect power to get ready. Since September of last year, in the face of the global financial crisis, Yuchai has adjusted its product structure through internal training to improve product quality. Product development has shifted toward low-price, light-weight, and fuel-efficient models, while vigorously developing agricultural machinery products. The large-scale cost reduction project has built up the advantages of products and markets for the development of Yuchai. Judging from the orders in the first quarter of 2009, the full preparation of the four months has enabled Yuchai to seize a rare opportunity for development and successfully turn “crisis” into an “opportunity”.

According to changes in the market, Yuchai’s marketing system has been operating intensively and aggressively. It has seized market share. After numerous investigations, Yuchai found that the rural and overseas markets have great potential, decisively selling products from the “town” to the “township,” and from “ Domestic "sold to "overseas" opens up new market space. Last year, the national agricultural machinery subsidies were 4 billion yuan, and this year it increased to 13 billion yuan. For every farmer buying a farmer, the average subsidy is nearly 30%, and the maximum subsidy for large-scale machinery is 120,000 yuan. According to the current market share of Yuchai farm machinery up to 40%, the national market will bring Yuchai an increase of 500 million yuan per month. Yuchai's products have a cost-effective advantage in the international markets of the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, Central and South America, and are very popular with local customers. In the financial crisis, the engine industry in Europe and the United States and other developed countries was also hit, and the cost-effectiveness of Yuchai's products was fully realized. While making breakthroughs in diesel engine exports, Yuchai excavators are also exported to more than 30 countries and regions in five continents such as Europe, America and Oceania, with an internal and external sales ratio of 1:1. In 2008, Yuchai exported 952 excavators to export. The amount of USD 23 million was the highest in history, among which the export of excavators below 15 tons ranks first in the country, accelerating the pace of internationalization of Yuchai. On February 17, 2009, Yuchai entered into a 10 million US dollar agreement for the supply and sale of engine products with Russian companies. It was the first time that China's single engine products were exported to Russia in bulk.
