Eaton Introduces Valve Drive System for Small and Medium-sized Diesel Engines


Eaton recently announced the launch of a variable valve actuation system for small and medium diesel engines. The system eliminates the trade-off between power and fuel economy in the traditional way, and achieves more flexible and full gas exchange control by changing valve lift properties. With these systems, Eaton will help its European customers achieve mandatory emissions reductions and improve fuel efficiency requirements.

In the next three years, Eaton will launch a next-generation variable valve train system on numerous engine platforms in Europe and around the world. Carlo Ghirardo, vice president and general manager of Eaton’s global valve division, said: “The demand for cleaner, more efficient combustion methods continues to grow. Eaton’s solution for the variable valve actuation mechanism for medium and small diesel engines solves this problem. Our solution allows The customer took further steps to significantly reduce nitrogen oxides and CO2 emissions in accordance with European statutory requirements.”

Eaton’s valve and drive mechanism plants in Europe are located in Nordhausen, Germany; Bielsko-Biala, Poland; and Bosconero and Monfalcone, Italy, all operated by Eaton Vehicle Group. In addition, valve and drive mechanism R&D centers are located in Turin, Italy and Rastatt, Germany.
