Continental Tire acquires 59% stake in GTY JV

Matthias Schoenberg, CEO of Continental Tire, confirmed that 16% of the shares previously held by Toyo Tire at the GTY joint venture have been held by Continental Tire and Yokohama Tire . At the same time, Continental Tire said that the company’s shareholding in the GTY joint venture has risen to 59%, and Yokohama Tire’s shareholding in the joint venture has also risen accordingly to 41%.

On January 11, 2010, after Continental tires and Yokohama Tire stopped supplying tires from the GTY factory to Toyo Tyre and terminated its partnership with the GTY factory, Toyo Tire sued Continental Tyre and Yokohama Tires in the California District Court after request. Both perform cooperative agreements.

At the time, Continental Tire and Yokohama Tire insisted that Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd., the parent company of Toyo Tire, had technology exchanges with its rival Bridgestone and used this as a Terminated cooperation with Toyo Tire at the GTY joint venture plant.

In mid-January of 2011, Japan's Toyo Tire indicated that the company has reached an agreement with Yokohama Tire and Continental Tire. According to the agreement, Toyo Tire agreed to withdraw from the GTY Tyre JV and withdraw pending litigation and related arbitration.

Toyo Tyre, Yokohama Tyre and Continental Tyre established a GTY factory in Mount Vernon, Illinois, in the United States in 1998, with a daily capacity of 7,300 truck and passenger car tires.

It is reported that after the withdrawal of GTY by Toyo, Continental Tire and Yokohama Tire will produce a certain number of truck and bus radial tires for Toyo this year at the GTY plant.
