Mexico suffers from strong earthquakes and many other factories.

According to foreign media reports, the central region of Mexico suffered a strong earthquake, and many local car companies began to inspect factories on Wednesdays. VW and Audi's factories in Puebla have also chosen to suspend production to inspect the factory buildings and allow workers to go home to make sure their families are safe.

On Tuesday afternoon, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the area near Mexico City, causing the first time and dozens of buildings in the nearby state capitals to collapse. By Wednesday afternoon, the death toll had reached 225 people.

As the largest car company in Mexico, Nissan said there were no casualties in the assembly plant in Mexico City and in the vicinity of Cuernavaca. Nissan said in its statement that factory workers have been sent home on Tuesdays and will assess the damage to the factory's buildings before resuming production. VW’s plant in the state of Puebla announced the suspension of production after the earthquake. Initial inspections showed only minor losses. The factory also resumed production on Tuesday evening and the administrative staff also went to work on Wednesday. The Puebla factory is the largest outside the company of Volkswagen, responsible for producing VW Beetles, Golf, Golf Touring Cars, Jetta and Tiguan. Volkswagen had invested $1 billion here in the production of a redesigned Tiguan.

The Audi crossover factory is located near the highway in San Jose Chiapa, Puebla. The factory did not suffer any damage or casualties. However, the factory's second production shift was suspended on Tuesday and the third shift was cancelled. Employees can go home to meet their families. Audi's factory is primarily responsible for the production of the Audi Q5 crossover.

Ford said that its factory in Cuautitlan has not suffered any losses, and production has not had an impact.

GM's factory in Mexico has also not been greatly affected by the earthquake. The Universal spokesman said that the factory in Toluca was slightly affected but did not affect production. GM stated in the e-mail that it will continue to monitor the factory, including assessing potential impacts.

The FCA issued a message on its Mexican official website that the company has carried out detailed inspections of the housing structure of the Toluca factory and its headquarters in Mexico City. The results show that all equipment can continue production. According to the report, Twitter's account for @FCAMexico is also distributing food, toiletries and other supplies for Mexican earthquake victims.

Toyota said that its headquarters in Mexico City is also normal and all its employees are safe. The only plant in Baja California, Mexico, was not affected because it was far from the center of the earthquake.

Most of Mexico’s automobile factories are located in northern Mexico and the central and northwestern regions, and the impact of the earthquake on these areas is relatively small. The port of transportation is far from the epicentre, and the infrastructure responsible for transporting off-line vehicles and parts from Mexico to the United States and Canada is also basically unaffected by the earthquake. The railway bureau in the south of Kansas City stated that the infrastructure in the area has not been affected by the earthquake and everything is operating normally. However, the bridges on the two main railway lines to the Juarez and Morelos areas may have deviated due to the earthquake.
